Two young girls were part of an exciting boxing tournament that pulled punches against drugs and alcohol abuse at Noordgesig community centre, in Soweto. The LDAC in partnership with the Noordgesig Evangelistic life skills development centre and Soweto Young Boxing Association are behind the great initiative against drugs, alcohol abuse and skills development. Thirteen judges were present at the tournament that included Teboho Ledwa, a former South African boxing Champion.

The life skills development center was filled with local supporters and star attraction boxers from Noordgesig, Central Western Jabavu, White City, and Dobsenville. The tournament opened with the under 15s challenging facing each other, with the first round of the bout, getting off to a storming  start much to the delight of the fist cuffs fans Anele Duduze from Tshepisong who weighed just 11 kg, ,romped to a first round victory against Tankiso Monyobo from Soweto.

The bouts were three rounds and the boxer fought with passion and showed discipline for the beloved sport way beyond their age throughout the tournament. The LDAC and skills center host their social and sports events without any financial support from the corporate world. They rely on locals who folk out their hard earned cash to keep this worthwhile initiative going. Coach Raymend Mshifane, from Mshifane boxing development is one of the many 12 coaches involved in the tournament. He trains young people to take up boxing to keep them from social ills such as crime, nyaope and abuse of alcohol.

Elders in the community like Noma Naude, 59, is a keen and active supporter of the campaign. She sold refreshments and food during the tournament. “I have been running a kitchen soup for twelve to fifteen years and I cook for three hundred to three hundred to fifty people every Thursday at my house. I receive support from church collections and I also cook for the people at my church”, said Naude.

The organisers of the tournament slammed the killings of two police officers gunned down on duty in Dobsenville last week. The pair from the family violence, child protection and sexual offence unit hero shot by a gang of armed me. To date a shocking 62 officers have been killed in the line of duty this year, bring the violence prevailing in the country that the organisers also highlighted into sharp perspective.

Battles in the digital world

Breaking Bad concluded an audience of 10.3 million viewers, Facebook and twitter raced to tell views media about the throngs who shared their reactions to the show on their social networks. Facebook and Twitter both see the social conversation around television as a way to increase use of their sites and win a bigger piece of advertisers', and they battle the title of the nation's digital device. The old-fashioned television has become to the internet-era- social networks, particularly Twitter, hence today television is a favourite topic for users, while using social network to comment and share topics.

Battle of the giants

The average audience for Twitter messages about a TV show is 50 times the number of people posting messages about the show and it has been found that heavy Twitter activity around a popular broadcast can drive more people to both the show and Twitter. Therefore, Twitter is a powerful tool to keep the conversation going and collaboration between traditional media and telecommunication leads to rendering the same services to the audience.
Hashtags on Twitter are building global discussion on a wide array of important issues, and they are becoming a tool in education, with a good example being #birdclass, the tag used by students in a bird biology class.

The future of television
In terms of the future of television , young people want television to be personalized to react to them and which travels the globe with them. Television is evolving as are other channels and its going to become more social because it has to, these changes will fundamentally alter how marketers will get their message to people. According to Razorfich white paper research, the future of television will become personalised and offering programmes to the audience interest, trends and mood. Therefore, choices and preferences will influence other people, and people will become channels. television will be portable and travel with people because of a cloud technology and people will be able to purchase with their television, and lastly it will allow people to create programming content and it will be served on demand and it will be categorized then shared with family and friends.

Evolving photograhy

Evolving Caption

Pietre Hugo's work primarily works in potraiture and whose work engages with both documentary and art tradition with a focus on African communities.
During 2009-2010 Hugo photographed the people and landscape of an expensive dump of obsolete technology in Ghana. The area on the outskirts of a slum known as Angbogbloshie, is reffered to by local inhabitants as Sodam and Gomarrah, vivid acknowledgement of the profound inhumanity of the place. When Hugo asked the inhabitants what they called the pit where the burning takes place the repeatedly responded: 'For this place we have no name'.

Why like them?
I like Friessel's work becuase she expands her art of work,
for example these photos shows the evolving fashion photo-
graphy , it brings about the unusual in fashion camerawork
and embraces the strong trend toward surrealism or realism.
Both photos by Friessel are presented extremely sharp and-
clear.
Toni Friessel began her career as a photojournalist and fashi-
on  photographer in 1907-1988. She is best known for her pi-
oneering fashion photography and her informal potraits of the
famous and powerful in United States and Europe,  inclu-
ding Winston Churchill, Eleanor Roosevelt, and John F.-
Kennedy and Jaqualine Kennedy.

they tell a story on their own without
 a description or article.
In this state the audience can only imagine suffering, loss, liberation,  and transformation

This wasteland in pictures, where people and cattle live on mountains and motherboards, monitors and dscharge hard drives is far removed from the benefits accorded by the unrelenting advances of technology.

 Why like it?
I have always been facinated by the view in UJ, Kingsway Campus. I took this picture during the day becuase i couldn't resist the beauty of this view, and the traffic of students near Student Centre. this photo is inspired by the everyday life that a student experiences, especially when you are fortunate and experience an amaizing view.
